The long wait is over! Rising from the
popularity it gained from the movies Despicable
Me and Despicable Me 2, the cute,
yellow, pesky but hilarious official mascots of Illumination Entertainment, The
Minions, are back on the big screen. And this time on their own spinoff movie!

For those people who have been living under
a rock and don’t have a clue who they are, Minions were a bunch of
simple-minded yellow creatures that speaks in their own gibberish language.
They are almost similar in shape and size with minimal unique differences to
tell them apart such as number of eyes, hair, height and roundness. Though they
wear disguises and costumes from time to time, they are often in their
signature blue overalls and metal goggles. Some of their popular acts were
their performance of Banana Song and Underwear (a parody song of All-4-One’s I Swear).
It’s crazy how these cute yellow creatures
have become more popular than the main characters of the movie that they are
made for. Adored by young people and young at heart, the minions have steadily
paved their way as some of the iconic characters in media today. They have made
appearance in several Illumination logo presentations and other short films.
They even have their own running mobile game with a storyline based on the two
Despicable Me Movies, Minion Rush:
Despicable Me which has become one of the top grossing applications on
Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Even McDonald’s Happy Meals now come
with a talking Minion toy which is available in 12 designs. Star360Philippines, the leading
distributor of school supplies and office supplies in the Philippines is also
distributing Minion themed
items. Some of their notable schools supplies are notebooks, journals, and
binders. The minions were a complete hit that we can all agree that these troublesome
little fellows deserve a movie of their own.
The timeline of Minions movie will take
place long before the troop of minions work for Gru, their master which they
loyally serve in the two Despicable Me movies. The movie will highlight the
origins of the Minions and their “participation” in shaping the world we knew
by mostly uhh, you know, messing things up. The official movie trailers of
Minions revealed that the minions were here long before humans have existed. Their
main goal? To serve the most despicable villain in the world. The movie will
also show the minions’ previous masters like a T-rex, a caveman, a pharaoh, a
vampire, and Napoleon Bonaparte. After a series of events, for a period of time
they lived in isolation. It is then when three minions: Kevin, Stuart, and Bob
departed from the troop in search of the meanest and evilest villain. They were
later on recruited by the villainess, Scarlet Overkill who needed their service
to take over the world. Whatever happens next, well, you’ll need to see the
movie for that.
Expect rib-tickling slapstick comedy and
ridiculous antics. Minions will open in Philippine theaters on July 8. For the
